Weekend assignment: give up your fav four!!!!!!!....

This is what they do at The Hartford (geez, how pretentious is THAT name!) while their customers assume they are insuring, investing, actuaring, hedge-funding, ponzi-scheming, posing with mooses, etc.  My friend 'Rant On' smuggled (via WikiLeaks) this important eyes only exercise:
Write down your all-time favorite songs.  NOT those you consider the best, but rather your personal favorites, for whatever reason (Sharie, perhaps you could note that special Queen song you shared with that rich, handsome hunk who dumped you before you had to settle for Keith).  Gus, I'm looking at you.  Here are those from The Hartford group (kudos, some really diverse lists; no artist/group had over two selections!):

Only 4??!!!

If I have to do this, here's my response for today. I hate leaving off "Work Out" (Jackie Wilson), "Things" (Bobby Darin), and "Cool Jerk" (Capitals), but heeerre they are (as Jim Lange would say):
1) Try Too Hard Dave Clark Five (their last gasp at a hit, I love the guitar opening)
2) Omaha Moby Grape
3) My Wife The Who
4) Toad Cream (I love to blast this when I'm in the car alone)

And now I'll have nightmares about 'Six O'Clock,' 'Sweet Jane,' Spencer Davis, Buffalo Springfield. What kind of cruel assignment was this?

Mia K (via her daddy) said...

Mia's top four

Jump then Fall-Taylor Swift
Everlong-Foo Fighters
Sick em on a Chicken-Zac Brown Band
I Need You Now-Lady Antebellum

Not bad for a three year old!

Johnnyk said...

Hop on the bus, Gus. Sorry about the angst, but remember, we have our annual meet and greet in the women's department at the Meriden Square Macy's soon.

Scott, good job by Mia. Country girl, I see.

I think we all agree that at least my 4 should be posted on the official blog part and not just in this comment cave...

OK, here's the Gumbo's.

1.Peggy Sue - Buddy Holly (first record I ever bought at age 10)
2.Whiskey River - Willie Nelson (opener for every Willie concert and his signature song)
3.I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2 (best song from the best album ever recorded)
4.Late in the Evening - Paul Simon (love that salsa rhythm and the horn section)

By the way.....UCONN in a BCS bowl game...come on....you Huskie fans have to be a little embarrassed .... another example of why college football needs a playoff system!

from the left coast.......jg

Johnnyk said...

Mr. Gumbo, nice to hear from you. Good list.

Perhaps you, as an Ohio State fan, can give some tips to UConn about how to react after being blown out of a BCS bowl game (with all those hard-earned experiences and all).

And while we're at it, THE Ohio State University president typifies why there will be no playoff soon- The Big Ten, PAC Ten and Rose Bowl refuse to share that sweetheart deal they have.

Jonathan K said...

Here they are:

1.White Man in Hammersmith Palais (The Clash)
2.Magnificent Seven (The Clash)
3.White Riot (demo version) (The Clash)
4.I Fought the Law (The Clash)

can’t believe I forgot . .. .

John Mayer’s cover of Free Fallin’ (Live)

I happen to be putting a playlist together for Carolyn’s Girl Scout troop. Tomorrow, we are working on the “Stress Less” badge. One of the activities is for the girls to pick their 2 favorite songs. We are going to listen to portions of everyone’s picks along with some of my picks and a few classical/opera pieces. While I was searching, I remembered this one.

Excellent call on the Paradise by the Dashboard Light. Great song; actually, great album. Meatloaf should have quit after this one. Ellen Foley (who preceded Margie Post on Night Court) was the chick singer. R.I.P. Phil Rizzuto.

From RK. Late as usual:

"Funk #49" - Joe Walsh and the James Gang. Lincoln Raceway, Long Island circa 1971 all nighter.

"Whole Lotta Love" - Led Zeppelin. Padarewski Park Plainville, summer of 70. Wierd things flying around there....

"You Really Got Me" - The Kinks. Could play it on my guitar.

"Foxy Lady" - Hendrix. Cuz it was so damn good.

Way too tough to call. Really wanted to add "Toad - Cream" because I wore that track out. Baker rocked. http://www.last.fm/music/Cream/_/Toad
Definitely influenced Micheal Shrieve in Santana's "Soul Sacrifice" at Woodstock.
