FINALLY, we walk into the quarter. It hints of rain. We duck into Napolean's just before the skies open. We settle in. Yes, Bloody Mary, please. Rain stops for a bit and we take a cab out to Toups' Meatery for lunch. We get a sample plate; I follow that up with a great Cuban Sandwich. Great call by Barry.
As we exit Toups', we see a bike pub crawl across the street, so we stop to see what's up. Pool. Darts. It is after three when we finally arrive at the fairgrounds, where we purchase tickets for all four days. First stop is the Lapniappe Stage in the Grandstand to sample Ingrid Lucia, then over to Gentilly for Theresa Andersson, a favorite who disappointingly seems to have lost a little on her fastball. Mark thinks it is because she does not translate well to the larger stage. Over to the Blues Tent where we meet up with the Mark/Lisa crowd. The question is: Patti Smith or Widespread Panic to close? I'm strongly in favor of PS and the PHS's agree. Great call. Patty kills it! I rains like hell but no one cares as Patti gives us a fabulous show!
