2011 Jazz Fest rosters are out!...

Last night, I stumbled across an article at nola.com which said that the 2011 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival lineups would be announced just before midnight Wednesday.  Well, that's way past this cowboy's bedtime, but it's early Thursday morning now and we've got 'em!   The Pool Hall Studs and I will be arriving on Wednesday night of the second weekend this year (Gumbo is being his stubborn, inflexible self and will arrive late Thursday), so Thursday at the Fest is an option.  As always, there are some first weekend acts that we will miss: Robert Plant & the Band of Joy, Mumford & Sons, Justin Townes Earle, Tab Benoit, Robert Cray, Pine Leaf Boys, John Mellencamp, John Legend & The Roots, Dr. John, Arlo Guthrie, The Decemberists, Terence Blanchard.  But we will discover great ones that we never heard of.  Here are my preliminary picks (I will have to investigate others - COMPLETE LISTING):
  • Thursday, May 5 - Wilco, Cyndi Lauper, Lucinda Williams, Galactic, Ruthie Foster, Michelle Shocked, Charlie Musselwhite, Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes, Amanda Shaw, The Iguanas, Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers, Delfeayo Marsalis' Uptown Orchestra, Little Freddie King Blues Band,  Gal Holiday & the Honky Tonk Revue,
  • Friday, May 6 - Arcade Fire, Willie Nelson, Gregg Allman Blues Band, Kermit Ruffins & the Barbecue Swingers, Buckwheat Zydeco, Edie Brickell, Eric Lindell, Soul Rebels Brass Band, Bonerama, Mingus Big Band, Luther Kent
  • Saturday, May 7 - Jimmy Buffett, The Strokes, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Allen Toussaint, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Bobby Blue Bland, Fourplay, Marcia Ball, Aaron Neville's Gospel Experience, Jesse Winchester, Walter "Wolfman" Washington & the Roadmasters, Dr. Michael White & the Original Liberty Jazz Band feat. Thais Clark, C.J. Chenier & the Red Hot Louisiana Band, The Jon Batiste Band, Wanda Rouzan's New Orleans R&B Revue
