And the rains came. But not until Gumbo and I purchased our tickets and listened to the beginning of Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes, who were dressed in Sgt. Pepper band attire. The it hit, a hard, driving storms with cracks of thunder and bolts of lightning in the distance. A mad dash to the nearest tent had us (and hundreds of others) jammed into the Kids' Tent, watching a school troupe perform juggling, dancing, etc. Soaked to the bone, for we forgot to carry rain ponchos - a major mistake in judgement.
New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival greets us under very threatening skies. Should we enter or park ourselves at the bar across from the entrance. Barry/Mark opt for the latter, but Gumbo and I venture forth, for it's going to blow over quickly.
Some patrons anticipated the worst and looked like giant condoms - but were much drier than those of us who didn't.
We eventually decided to make our move and brave the elements to make our way over to the AIG Gospel Tent, where we found a couple free seats to rest in while we were being saved by The Unstoppable Gospel Creators, resplendent in creamy yellow suits, featuring one male and two female lead singers. Much to my surprise, I heard the opening riff to the Temptations' My Girl, but such secular worries were unwarranted as the tall, deep-voiced male was talkin' bout My Lord. Can I get a witness out there!
View of the food booths. Numerous lakes had to be negotiated in order to get around the Fest, but people managed to get to the food booths. Gumbo and I shared some meat pies, gumbo and Crawfish Monica. Great stuff!
