Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave in NYC tonight and Fairfield next Wednesday...

PHS Mark with Orleans Ave guitarist
"Freaky Pete" Murano at Jazz Fest 2011
(NY Daily News)  The trombone can blare and wail, or swoop and soothe. But seldom has it nabbed the pop spotlight enjoyed by the sax or trumpet. You’d have to go back to the swing days of Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey to find a starring role for this long and meaningful instrument.

Enter Trombone Shorty, the man best positioned to bring the sexy back to his title contraption. It helps that he’s 25 years old and a looker. Naturally, Shorty hails from New Orleans, a city whose famous brass bands have always given strong play to this underappreciated horn. But Trombone Shorty (nee Troy Andrews) hasn’t ghettoized his style to fit the city’s stereotypes. (the whole enchilada)
