From the Courant's Owen McNally: After last summer's fare that was nobly, if not popularly, devoted to the avant-garde, the free Monday Night Jazz Series in Bushnell Park this summer fields a more varied, accessible lineup. Marking its 42nd year, the series, which runs for five consecutive Monday nights, begins its new season Monday night with Afro-Semitic Experience, which celebrates the cultural and musical heritage of the Jewish and African diasporas. It is the brainchild of Jewish-American bassist David Chevan and African-American pianist Warren Byrd. The George Blackman Group opens. ....Maurice Robertson, the new artistic director of the series, describes this summer's focus as "a jazz catalog that is diverse and accessible." - complete article
