An NYU chemistry department employee came up with a formula for trouble: submitting $409,000 in bogus expenses using receipts fished out of liquor-store trash cans. John Runowicz, a former budget coordinator, was charged Wednesday with duping school beancounters for more than five years with receipts from Warehouse Wines & Spirits. Runowicz, a music buff who fronts a doo-wop band under the name John Michael Hirsey, pleaded not guilty in Manhattan Supreme Court to grand larceny and falsifying business records. As a musician, Runowicz has performed with the R&B group Speedo & The Cadillacs, and released a solo CD titled "How Am I Here?" He could be singing a mournful tune. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of grand larceny. - complete article
